West Wilkes High School is a public high school (grades 9-12) located in Millers Creek, North Carolina. It is a part of the Wilkes County School System. The school's enrollment is typically around 650 students. The school's district includes the western communities of Wilkes County, including Millers Creek, Cricket, Mount Pleasant, Parsonsville, and Wilbar. The current principal is Mr. Wayne Shepherd.

President Barack Obama visited the school as part of his North Carolina, Virginia bus tour.

Academics

A normal school day consists of four 90-minute periods with three 30 minute lunch periods during third period.

The school offers career prep classes and college prep classes. It offers Honors mathematics, English, Social Science, and science courses. West Wilkes also offers Advanced Placement courses in subjects such as History, Calculus and English. The language department offers courses in Spanish, German, Latin, and French. West Wilkes is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, also known as SACS.

Athletics

West Wilkes' sports mascot is the Black Hawk. West Wilkes is a member of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and is classified as a 1A school. The school is a member of the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference, which includes 1A and 2A schools from Wilkes County and neighboring counties in North Carolina. The school's colors are orange and black.
